Over 300 delegates gather in the city to deliberate on health equity

Bangalore: July 7, 2016: Today evening, the 3rd edition of a National Conference on bringing Evidence into Public Health Policy took off. Over 300 delegates coming from several Indian states gather in the city to deliberate on health inequities and how other sectors could contribute to health.

Inauguration ceremony was graced by presence of national and international public health experts. These included Dr. Abdul Ghaffar (Executive Director, WHO Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, Geneva), Prof. Bart Criel (Professor, Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp – Belgium), Dr. Sanjiv Kumar (Executive Director, National Health Systems Resource Centre, Delhi), Dr. K S Ravindranath (Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore), Dr. Rathan Kelkar (Mission Director, National Health Mission, Karnataka), Dr. Vimala Patil (Director, Department of  Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka) and Dr. N Devadasan (Director, Institute of Public Health, Bangalore).

Shri. K R Ramesh Kumar, honorable Minister of Health and Family Welfare (Government of Karnataka) was to open the conference but could not participate due to other engagements. He wished the conference well. Shri. U T Khader, honorable Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (Government of Karnataka) delivered inaugural speech. The Conference organizers felicitated him for his exceptional leadership in promoting healthier policies and reforms in the state.

Scientific sessions, panel discussions and dialogues with policymakers mark the conference programme on 8th and 9th July at the Hotel Chancery Pavilion. The conference has been organized by the city-based Institute of Public Health (Bangalore) and the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Belgium) in partnership with the Government of Karnataka, Indian Council on Medical Research (Government of India), National Health Systems Resource Centre (Government of India) and Because Health (Belgian platform for global health).
