Bangalore, 20th June, 2016: The much-awaited 15 Books Campaign conducted by Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, was inaugurated in Bangalore across the Pearson managed schools. This annual campaign is held in all Pearson schools where every student from grades 1-8 will read 15 books from the chosen genre for the year available to them in the library. On successfully completing any one of the 15 books, students will be recognized and awarded completion certificates at the end of the academic year. This programme aims to instill a spirit of reading in students by exposing them various literary pieces, across genre and thus making learning a rewarding experience for the students.
The success of this programme has encouraged the schools to adopt it for the sixth consecutive year. This time around, the student’s excitement knew no bounds when Pearson partnered with Hippocampus Reading Foundation, a renowned organization which aims at encouraging reading among children, at all levels.
Ms. Shalini Srinivasan, a renowned author of the comic series, Amara Chitra Katha, inaugurated the campaign and unveiled 15 books in the library. She conducted a gripping story-telling session which had the students listening to her in rapt attention. She also read paragraphs from her book, ‘Gangamaa’s Ghariyal,’ which was thoroughly enjoyed by students and teachers alike.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Shalini said “I appreciate the effort taken by Pearson Schools in promoting book reading among students. It is important to guide and encourage students to inculcate the habit of reading apart from regular academics. Making reading a regular practice can help students to de-stress and eliminates negative thoughts. It can bring in a lot of positivity and develop logical thinking which in future may help them in cracking several competitive exams, which involves reasoning and critical thinking”.
This year, Pearson has partnered with Hippocampus Reading Foundation, to train the librarians in conducting interactive library sessions in an organized fashion, orient teachers to use the GROW programme which assess the reading levels of children, encourages them to read books at their skill levels and helps them to improve their reading comprehension skills.
“I always look forward to the 15 Book Campaign as I get lost in the interesting world of books, reading is my favorite pastime and I never let go off an opportunity to try different genres of books, be it fiction, mystery, science or literature” said Aryan a student of Cambridge Public School.
“We are glad to partner with Hippocampus on this initiative, at Pearson Schools; we believe reading is an integral part of the curriculum, there is nothing that widens ones horizons like reading does. It was great to see the students make the most of this opportunity” said Mr. Harish Doraiswamy, Vice President, Direct Delivery, Schools Vertical, Pearson India.
