Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, Now Offers Free Weekly Use of its FibroScan Machine, the Liver Diagnostic Tool of Choice

Gurgaon,30th  May 2016: Taking another step towards compassionate tertiary patient care, leading multi-speciality healthcare provider Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, now organizes free weekly FibroScan screening for patients with potential liver diseases.

The hospital has taken the initiative to run the weekly camp for a year. It is open to the public, every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The actual cost of the FibroScan is Rs 5,000 in private hospitals.

The weekly camp will be conducted under the guidance of the gastroenterology team, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon. It will screen people at risk of liver disease, such as hepatitis, fatty liver (diabetic, alcoholic, non-alcoholic).

FibroScan is a non-invasive method to measure the stiffness of the liver for liver fibrosis (rigidity). The method uses Vibration Controlled Transient Elastography (VCTE, patented by manufacturer ECHOSENS), specifically designed for liver screening. The machine sends sound waves into the liver, causing it to vibrate, thereby measuring scarring (cirrhosis). It is quick, reliable, and easy to perform and it give immediate results.

“India has a very low prevalence of health check-ups and regular screening. This is especially true when it comes to liver disease. Patients may come to a hospital only when the disease has reached a chronic stage, and the symptoms become unbearable. Many people avoid check-ups for fear of the attached costs and expenses on tests, especially those of a diagnostic nature. Therefore, we took the initiative to offer FibroScan screening free of cost. We hope, that through this camp, we will be able to help as many people as possible in early detection of liver disease, so that appropriate measures for cure can be initiated,” said Dr. Rajnish Monga, Senior Gastroenterologist , Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon

It is necessary for the people undergoing the test to be on an empty stomach (they should not have eaten upto two hours prior to the test). Additionally, this test should not be performed on pregnant women, patients with a pacemaker and those with ascites (accumulation of fluid in the abdomen).

“Owing to unhealthy food habits, excessive alcohol consumption, and a sedentary lifestyle, many people today are living with liver disease. Some of them don’t ever realize it till it is irreversible. Liver diseases are often silent and do not show symptoms. They are diagnosed after they have caused intense damage, as in the case of liver cirrhosis. With this camp, we hope to educate people about possible liver diseases and the importance of diagnostic tests. Each patient will be given a fibrosis interpretation card, which is provided at the time of screening,” added _Dr. Anupkalp, Consultant, Gastroenterologist

Kill the urge to Smoke

Inputs by Dr Salik Raza Chest Specialist , Park Group of Hospitals

  1. Decide to Quit Smoking – Successful quitting can be done by planning and commitment and not by luck. To quit smoke you need to pick the date and mark it on your calendar.Tell friends and family about your Quit Day.Get rid of all the cigarettes and ashtrays in your home, car, and at work. Don’t forget to consult your doctor for the same in case of depending on drugs to quit smoke.
  1. Stock up – These oral substitutes can be very supportive — sugarless gum, carrot sticks hard candy, cinnamon sticks, coffee stirrers, straws, and/or toothpicks.
  1. Set up a support system – This could be a group program or a friend or family member who has successfully quit and is willing to help you. Ask family and friends who still smoke not to smoke around you, and not to leave cigarettes out where you can see them. Practice saying, “No thank you, I don’t smoke.”
  1. Keep active— Try walking, exercising, or doing other activities or hobbies which you love to do.   Think about how you can change your routine.  Use a different route to go to work, avoid situations where the urge to smoke is strong. Spending more time with loved ones can be motivating.
  1. Mind your Intake – Drink lots of water and juices.Begin using nicotine replacement if that is your choice. Drink tea instead of coffee. Eat breakfast in a different place or eat different foods. Drink less alcohol or avoid it completely. Drinking orange juice apart from other fruits such as lemons and pomegranates can provide your body with adequate levels of Vitamin C, which can help you kick the habit faster.
  1. Keep it on Priority – Vegetablessuch as celery, carrots, spinach, cucumber, zucchini and egg. Keep plant leaves in your mouth for a bitter taste, which helps to reduce your dependence on nicotine.  Milk and dairy products has an added advantage which prevents one from enjoying a cigarette, as it leaves a horrible taste in your mouth which will make you want to put out your cigarette.
  1. Small but powerful – Licking a little salt with the tip of your tongue or eating something salty will stop the craving that one will have for a smoke. Herbs like Ginseng not only helps you when it comes to weight loss but it also helps to quit smoking. It should be used only3-4 times in a month.
  1. Alert– Foods such as peas and corn should be avoided as this will stimulate one’s desire to smoke again. If you are smoking for very long, then it becomes linked with a lot of the things you do like waking up in the morning, eating, reading, watching TV, and drinking coffee. It will take time to “de-link” smoking from these activities. This is why, even if you are using a nicotine replacement, you may still have strong urges to smoke.

MY FM has crossed a landmark, and joined the 100 crore club by recording a topline revenue of Rs 107.5 crore in FY 2015-16. Furthermore MY FM has been outperforming the industry on EBIDTA margins

Commenting on the annual results, Mr. Harrish Bhatia, CEO, MY FM said, “I am overwhelmed that we have reached this milestone. After being the only radio station to Break even in the shortest span of 3 years and turning PAT positive in less than 5 years of operation crossing 100 crore is definitely another landmark for us.

We have always set high industry standards by introducing best of talent and breakthrough content.”

Viplove Gupte, ‎Chief Programming Officer said, “In an effort to bring highly specialized and focused content on radio we launched Crossfire; radio’s first ever hard hitting interview. The intent was to bring serious listeners back to radio, create value for listeners and give them a strong reason to tune in. We have differentiated ourselves in terms of content i.e. exclusive shows as well as positioning i.e. ‘jiyo dil se’ (our strong belief) to build an emotional connect with the listeners. For any medium, the growth will come only if the content is good. Our On ground initiatives are unique and have a strong connect Jiyo Dil Se Awards, Rangrezz (Painting Competition), Paiso ka Ped, Daawat E Music have a strong connect with the listeners and brings out the extraordinary in them. In the coming years, we will undertake new and exclusive strategies which will further take us to the next level of radio growth. ”

Mr. Bhatia further added, “Advertising revenues for the radio industry have actually grown very well and are poised for an even greater growth. We are present in the real Bharat, it is these towns where the malls, multiplexes are growing, where consumerism is increasing by leaps. We look forward to interesting times in Radio.”

In a country where education levels are still low and power cuts are rampant, radio acts as the most effective medium to reach to a larger audience. This is true especially in the case of TIER II and TIER III cities where there is lack of infrastructure for entertainment and engagement. Hence, Radio takes a Lead.

94.3 MY (the radio arm of DB Corp group) identified this opportunity and started its operations in 2006 in Jaipur and in next couple of years saw itself become the forth radio network in India with presence across 7 states. Following the strategy of the parent company, D B Corp Ltd., MY FM too concentrates on TIER II and TIER III cities. Even, when the country was hit by financial crisis MY FM was able to break even in 3 years and turn PAT positive in four and a half years. MY FM 94.3 continues to cultivate strong listenership base through active audience engagement and brand promotion activities.
