Bangalore, December 11th, 2015: Shilpa Sharma, co-founder of Jaypore.com hosted the much awaited sari styling workshop in Bangalore with Rta Kapur Chishti on Friday 11th, 2015 at The Olive Beach. The workshop was co-hosted by Jaypore in association with Rta Kapur Chishti with the aim of intriguing the audience by the charms of the wonderous six-yards.
“Jaypore is proud to host ‘The Sari School Workshop’ with textile enthusiast and India’s sari scion Rta Kapur Chishti. We share her love for the unstitched garment that is the sari and hence chose to celebrate the six yard wonder with this special event, decoding the various myths of this beautiful piece of clothing” said Shilpa Sharma at the event that saw eager participation by sari enthusiasts.
Rta Kapur Chishti, a renowned textile scholar and co-author & editor of several volumes on sarees from different regions of India, shared glimpses of the various design differences and regional flavors that define the saree today. The workshop included an introduction to the history and tradition of the saree as well as its its journey from the single garment adorning an Indian woman centuries ago, to its adaptations and regional interpretations today. The worskshop ended on a delightful note as Ms. Chishti went on to teach four regional saree-draping styles, ranging from the experimental Coorg style with pleats behind the back to the adventurous Venukagundaram of Andhra Pradesh, with room for styling based on the wearer’s aesthetic.
Jaypore plans to host more workshops in the future on the beautiful six-yards as well as engaging in other meaningful interactions with our audience across the country in their tryst to include sarees as a daily wear instead of being relegated to special occassions.
