Commenting on the launch of the 7th edition of NBA, Namma Bengaluru Foundation CEO – Mr. Sridhar Pabbisetty said, “Namma Bengaluru has a glorious history of 477 years. Citizen partnership is imperative to help restore the city from the issues plaguing it currently. Namma Bengaluru Awards strives to not only honour unsung heroes but also create more of them who are relentless in their commitment to bring about the change they wish to see. At such a time where everything is motivated by vested interests, it’s more vital than ever to celebrate collective and fearless action driven by the spirit of humanity. Please nominate your unsung hero who has gone beyond his/her own comforts to make Bengaluru a better place.”

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Pradeep Kar, Chairman of the Jury Panel said, “Namma Bengaluru Awards is an exceptional platform where the aspirations and needs of like-minded citizens converge for a larger cause, that of a better and humane Bangalore. The overwhelming response NBA has received so far is commendable and reiterates the fact that citizens are in agreement with the cause championed by NBF. It is important to recognize the unsung heroes of our city and honor their commitment. I request all Bengalureans to nominate their heroes for the Namma Bengaluru Award.”

The NBA nominees are those who earn the title of hero, except not of the celluloid variety. Instead, these are the men and women who truly deserve the title – the ones who go above and beyond the call of duty to answer a higher call: that of humanity. And they’ve been nominated as heroes by those who truly make or break heroes: ordinary citizens. That citizens are as keen to celebrate these heroes is evident from the astounding increase in the number of nominations received: 4,000 in 2009; 10,000 in 2010 14,000 in 2011, 61,000 in 2012, 71,000 in 2013 and 76,000 in 2014. These nominations intend to ensure that Bengaluru is not just quoted as a Big City’ but also as a city that recognizes and shows gratitude to the people behind its making.
