Consultative workshop on National Urban Health Mission in Karnataka

“For the successful implementation of any government programs, the commitment and efficiency of the officers, support of the representatives, and involvement of the people is the key” said honourable health minister of Karnataka, Mr UT Khader at his inaugural speech of Consultative Workshop on National Urban Health Mission in Karnataka held at Executive Development Center, Bangalore.

He said Bangalore has become the capital of communicable diseases for various reasons. He opined that no matter whatever funds are available, how we can maximise its utilisation where it will benefit the health of Bangalore is the key. Bangalore will be one of the best health cities which would lead to development. We want healthy Bangalore where people of the society are healthy. Whatever the suggestions are given, we will take it in the right sprit and our government will support.

The UN secretary general’s special Enjoy for AIDS Asia & the Pacific; Mr. J V R Prasada Rao said that the health problem of cities is a consequence of migration which has resulted in overcrowding, sanitation issues, and burden of diseases. He continued to say that statistically there is no difference between urban, poor vs rural population. He said NUHM goal should emphasize on urban community healthcare, urban primary healthcare, and empowerment of women.

The Centre for Budget and Policy Studies (CBPS), HealthMinds, UNICEF and International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore organized a one day consultation workshop on the health and healthcare issues in urban areas and drew pointers for NHM interventions. The consultation was more of brain storming and brought together civil society professionals, policy planners, service providers and academicians. The consultation was so designed that selected panellists spoke on the topic and set the discussion going where both invited speakers as well as others were called for to add on to the discourse.

Our Organization will not participate in  the All India Trucker strike called from   1st   October   2015   for   the    following  demands

1). T.D.S:  In our country majority of the truck owner are owning one to five truckers. The central government has given exemption from TDS up to ten trucks so this not applicable to truck owners.

2). TOLL:  The national highway authority of India through the central government is constructing national highway under public private partnership model ( PPP ), accordingly after inviting bidding the NHAI has selected concessionaires  and entered in to agreements to build the national highways. The concessionaires who have constructed  the roads are charging Tolls as per the agreements terms and conditions.

         The central government can’t take unilateral decisions to modify this rules and change the patron of toll collection. We may request the government to think in terms of mode and method to discus  with the concessionaires and think of changing  the mode  of collection  defiantly this can’t be solved across   the table, hence we are not joining the strike.

3). SPEED GOVERNOR : Earlier the central government has formed the rules to implement the speed governor provisions by the respective state government. as per  the  earlier  speed  limit of  40 to 60

kms opposing this we had requested the central government to increase the speed limits according to the present road development and Technical development of the vehicles and also we   had  requested that the manufacturer  of vehicles may be asked to technically develop speed governors, so that they perform better. Accordingly the Central  government  has  brought in norms and directed the manufactures  to design and develop good speed governors for speed limit  up to 80 kms. The government conceded  the request and modified the  speed limit, and made it compulsory for manufacturer to fix the speed governors in the new vehicles to be register after 1st October 2015,  as such the truckers immediately need not worry about this, it is better to wait for the performance of new vehicles fitting with speed governors. In view of this  we are not joining the strike  from 1st October -2015.

‘Vastrabharana’ 2015, the flagship fundraiser event for Crafts Council Karnataka  which has become synonymous with the connoisseurs of handcrafted textiles of Bangalore, will be inaugurated on the 2nd of October 2015 at 10 am by Smt Gita Ram, Hon Chairperson, Crafts Council of India.  Smt Vimala Rangachar our former chairperson and our honorable patron has tried to keep alive the motto of her mentor smt Kamala Chattopadhayay, the proud tradition of saree culture and awareness especially to our future generations through this flagship exhibition.

Shri Ram Kishore Chippa of Bagru- Rajasthan, a Padmashri Awardee, is bringing an exclusive range of saris specially crafted for this prestigious event.

Apart from this, laheriyas of Jaipur by Sabbir Nilgar, sarees by national awardee Shyamji Bhai, Blocks and Weaves from Madhya Pradesh, exclusive stitch painting from various parts of the country, pure cottons from Kanchipuram, Ilkal sares, Guled Gudda Khanas from north Karnataka, Shibori fby Mura Collectives, will be part of the exhibition.

The purpose of this exhibition is to promote a direct purchase of the very best quality in handcrafted textiles genuinely brought by master weavers and printers at reasonable prices without involving middlemen.  However of late, our exhibition being a fundraiser, we have introduced a few designers on popular demand.  They also create awareness of the glorious textile heritage of Indiaand to empower rural crafts persons to earn a dignified livelihood.

The Crafts Council of Karnataka is a non- profit voluntary organisation dedicated to the promotion of the languishing handicrafts of Karnataka. It was started in the year 1967 with Smt Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay as its Founder patron. This fundraiser event is the only source of income to take forward all our activities towards all our welfare schemes such as craft exhibitions, seminars, design development craft workshops, old age pensions and medical benefits etc for the needy crafts persons of this region, as well as for the core functioning of the Crafts Council of Karnataka. Their forte lies in the revival of languishing crafts through surveys and documentation of selected handicrafts of Karnataka. This endeavour helps preserve, sustain and support the crafts sectors for posterity. We have documented and published several volumes in this regard

Eye from the Sky as MTDC launches Heli Tourism

Mumbai: Get ready for a stunning spectacular aerial view, watch the unique cityscape and glare at most pulsating city as on the occasion of World Tourism Day Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) along with Girisons Airways starts Heli Tourism in Mumbai.

The helicopters will operate from Juhu airport every Sunday for 15 minutes at the cost of Rs 3939 excluding taxes and take tourists on a mesmerising ride ever.
